Al Shati Plaza
A tropical plaza on
the Arabian Gulf.
Al Shati Plaza (S-Square) overturns the idea of the conventional strip mall — a vibrant, permeable urban complex of retail shops, restaurants and cafes, threaded through with joyful colored architectural features. Dramatic cantilevered platforms and modern tropical architecture combine to create outdoor terraces that capture full panoramic views of the Gulf.
Showrooms, urban approach,
jungle plaza, iconic mass.
The building surfaces elongate to maximize views to the open sea, with light and shadow, and natural, sustainable materials driving every decision. Showrooms cascade down toward a central jungle plaza in a series of overlapping platforms, unified by an iconic perforated metal screen that acts as the building's visual anchor and helps with wayfinding.
Flying stairs, green screens,
tropical decks.
The jungle plaza emphasizes a tropical design theme through flying stairs, green screens, wooden decks, stone and palms. Outdoor terraces convey a sense of serenity through spaciousness, material choice and diffused natural light filtered through the metal canopy above.
Brightly colored graffiti walls, signage and screens installed on the facade create an energetic entrance to the plaza, reflecting the deep seasonal colors of its surroundings — while the distinctive interiors keep a soft, elegant material palette that lets the food and beverage tenants generate a dynamic dialogue between indoors and out.
